This joint submission supports the continuation of the National Rural Health Commissioner role and calls for legislative reform to strengthen its scope, independence and impact. It highlights persistent health inequities experienced by women in rural, regional and remote Australia, particularly First Nations women, women with disabilities and women from multicultural backgrounds. The submission recommends improved data, monitoring and community engagement to ensure rural health policy better reflects lived experience and delivers equitable outcomes.
