Our Work

Every voice matters.
Every woman thrives.

At AMWA, we’re working to build a fairer, more inclusive Australia where multicultural women are safe, healthy, valued, economically secure, and represented in leadership. Guided by lived experience and collaboration across the community sector, our advocacy spans the following five key areas that shape women’s lives. Together, we are challenging systemic barriers and driving change so every woman can thrive.

Purpose

Thematic Working Groups provide expert, community-informed advice across five priority areas and help shape AMWA’s policy advice to government, advocacy campaigns, and strategic direction.

Commitment

Groups come together periodically for insight-sharing, consultation and agenda-setting. Members can also contribute through written input, virtual consultations and targeted discussions. If they miss a meeting, there are other ways to stay involved.

Value for members

Participation connects members with a national network of peers, advocates and leaders, while creating opportunities to build profile, contribute to policy development and influence systemic change.

Our five Priority Areas

These five priority areas guide our work and form our Thematic Working Groups.

Gender-Based Violence

We advocate for preventing gender-based violence and ensuring access to culturally safe, support for multicultural women. Everyone deserves safety, whether at home or in the workplace, or in the institutions that are designed to provide it.

Health

We work to improve health outcomes for multicultural women, pushing for inclusive systems, better access, and care that respects cultural needs and lived experiences.

Paid and Unpaid Care

We recognise paid and unpaid care as essential work, and call for fair policies that value, support, and protect those who provide it-often migrant and refugee women.

Economic Security

We advocate for economic equality, fair employment, and opportunities that empower multicultural women to build secure, independent futures.

Leadership

We strive to elevate multicultural women’s voices in decision-making, so leadership at every level reflects Australia’s diversity and delivers better outcomes for all.
