About the Thematic Working Groups

AMWA’s  Thematic Working Groups aim to provide expert, community-informed advice on five key priority areas:

  1. Gender-Based Violence Prevention
  2. Paid and Unpaid Care Work
  3. Economic Security and Participation
  4. Women’s Health and Wellbeing
  5. Leadership and Representation

These groups will help shape AMWA’s policy advice to government, advocacy campaigns, and strategic direction. TWGs will be composed of members with lived experience, community leadership, and/or professional or academic expertise related to the theme.

Purpose and Commitment

The Thematic Working Groups will come together periodically as collaborative spaces for insight-sharing, consultation, and agenda-setting, with the cadence shaped by priorities, emerging issues, and member needs.

Beyond meetings, members will have multiple ways to engage with AMWA’s work, including contributing to policy submissions, research, and briefings through written input, virtual consultations, and targeted discussions. Members may also be invited throughout the year to share perspectives on emerging issues or policy opportunities relevant to their expertise or lived experience.

If members are unable to attend a meeting, there will be other opportunities to contribute and stay connected to the work

Value for Members

Participation in a Thematic Working Group offers members the opportunity to connect with a national network of peers, advocates, and leaders who are working collectively to advance equity for multicultural women.

It provides a platform to build profile, contribute to policy development, and influence systemic change.

How to Join

You must be an AMWA member to be eligible to participate in our Thematic Working Groups. Membership is FREE.
